It’s no secret, getting a job is tough. Finding that pearl, or even a bauble amidst the bleakness of the classifieds is a painful, lengthy process for most of us. Yet the web has made the process easier through the listing sites such as Monster or Indeed, but there are a couple resources that have escaped the limelight.
Both employers and freelancers speak well of oDesk, the employment marketplace that lets you work where ever you are. Through a series of self administered tests and profile pages you can lay out your skills and terms to prospective employers. oDesk will act as mediator and headhunter, putting you in contact with a wide variety of employers around the world . Alternatively, employers can search for the skill set they are looking for and pull together a pool of candidates in under a minute, sorting by skill, location, feedback, rate, and language skills. Useful for both sides of the paycheck, oDesk is a resource that is worth investigation.
Of course, not all opportunities are as obvious as oDesk, and social networks such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook are not to be underestimated. A friend of a friend or a former business contact could lead you to your next position, and who can say where the next paycheck is coming from?
