Slantly: Opinion Platform For Publishers

July 3rd, 2008

Slantly ListingIf there’s one thing we’ve learned about the web, it’s that people are happiest when expressing themselves.

A recent addition to the beta set, Slantly allows people to do just that, offering a streamlined opinion platform for bloggers and hosts. Through a simplified and prompt-light interface Slantly guides the opinion maker to their own page (yourname.slantly.com), and then to a series of tools to participate in the opinion and comment frenzy that is the internet.

As seen in the above screenshot, Slantly, perhaps aware of the foaming evangelists we all become when topics get hot, settles us into our respective corners and makes us type at least something in the way of support to the claim. The option for linking to the original issue is good touch, lending a bit more credibility to the poll. Bloggers and website hosts will be pleased by the elegant Java voting widget

that is customizable and embedable into their sites with instant updates on vote counts, and an identity portal (yourname.slantly.com) that offers another place on the net to throw linkbacks or inform visitors. Already several TV stations have adopted Slantly into their sites to drive flashpoint traffic, but there are capabilities for more than emotional response. Sites can also track opinions on targeted issues, and visitors can participate in the debate by signing into the Slantly site with comments and their own identity page. The downside to this is that traffic is driven from the host site, but as previously mentioned, branding is possible within the Slantly platform.

As with any poll, there is the potential with Slantly to slant discussions toward a desired result (gshameless example after the linked logo), so again, another opportunity to guide visitors. Currently in a fully functional beta, Slantly is free and our blog test showed it to be stable. Find Slantly and other webware like it with this Listio search: opinions+business

Here’s an example of leading. Say we were to compare “Listio is great,” and “Do you agree that Listio brings you new and engaging web 2.0 applications?” One is a straight up or down, the other suggestive – see how slant-ly that is?

Just click on one tag, then as many more as you'd like to narrow your search results. It's easy and ensures you get to the listing you want. Finding web 2.0 was never so easy.
