Bomomo: Unconventional Drawing Application
Most drawing applications require the ability to draw, but there are times when you want to create something more abstract, say a pattern of colors or simple lines. For that, one of the drawing applications that is based on the user’s ability to draw may not be the best choice, and you may want to use an unconventional drawing program that has tools to let you create the image you like.
If you are looking to generate something more abstract, take a look at Bomomo, the online drawing application that has a range of tools to help you create what you like. With Bomomo there is no paintbrush or pen - you begin with a blank canvas and a set of tools that generate different patterns.
Let’s draw our way through an image, so you can get the idea. Users begin with a blank canvas, and have direct control over where the colors go and which tool they use. At any time you would like to save the image there is a button on the lower right with a disk on it, or you could click the up arrow button beside it to save a higher quality version of your work. Running the length of the bottom of the screen are the tools of Bomomo, easily applied with a click. Each of the tool buttons has an image on its face to show the user what it does, but let’s create an image so you can see how Bomomo uses its tools.
The first thing you’ll see with one of Bomomo’s tools is how when you click on a tool, several bubbles appear on the canvas and begin to move in a pattern depicted on the button. For example, if you were to click on the tool that has upright sliders on it, the bubbles would spread out across the canvas and move straight up and down, just as a slider might. If we want to create that pattern, we can roll over the bubbles until we get a color we like and click. The bubbles will darken in their path with that color. Users that want to have the sliders move horizontally can click once (quickly if you want no spot) and Bomomo will automatically change the course of the bubbles. If the bubbles are too large, you can click outside the canvas and the size will change. The larger the bubbles, the wider the stroke of color.
As seen in the screenshot above, there are a number of tools covering a variety of patterns available, each with a similar control. Simply click the tool you like, and place it with your mouse. On many you can draw as you click to create new paths with the tool, creating a more complex pattern. The drawback to Bomomo is that it is hard to control - color and size changes are difficult to make and require patience.
Drawbacks aside, Bomomo is a drawing application with a strong design sense where users can create intricate images of color and shape with a series of geometric tools. To find Bomomo or similar applications, there is the Listio search: graphics+create.
