Veoh: Online TV With Video Hosting

Veoh is something of a standalone TV application, serving more than one video need. In addition to streaming TV and movies, Veoh includes web series, and videos in an entertainment portal that now includes networking. Laid out in a mashup style with boxes for popular shows and a message center where users can send messages or make friend requests, Veoh more resembles a video hosting site such as YouTube than a TV application.
The features of Veoh give you an indication of its advantages; users can upload their own videos, filter results for family viewing, and exchange preferences with other users. Judging by these features, in addition to video upload, social features, and community pages (groups), it’s clear that Veoh wants to be a destination. We found the collection to be well rounded, with current television shows outnumbering feature length films, some of which have been fed from the TV application Hulu. All categories had several things to watch, with a heavy presence of network television.
For social users, Veoh has made it easy to show what you like (or don’t) and share it. On top of emailing and joining groups, Veoh has provided forums for discussion and messaging for friends. Users can also rate and comment on shows, and bloggers can embed some of the content (videos and some TV) into their sites.
The low point of Veoh is its reliance on Hulu for TV and movies, but they do add their own to the mix, and with the the ability to upload your own clips, are potentially a better source of entertainment than video hosting sites. Users that want to revisit some of their favorites can take advantage of a Veoh download that lets you download and record shows in a TiVo style for later viewing (PC only).
