Travel Journals And Web 2.0
Traveling is one of life’s pleasures, but as we all know the following Monday, it’s over too quickly. So how do you keep those memories alive? Share your memories, advice and tips for friends, family, and other travelers with Web 2.0 and a type of application we call the travel journal.
Travel journals have evolved online to become more than just a blog with travel details - they have combined elements from a variety of web 2.0 applications, making them part blog, part social network, part photo album, and part map. The applications we will look at this week, Driftr, myTripBook, GoAbroad, and MyLifeofTravel all incorporate an interactive map, several using Google’s map in a mashup so you can drop pins on your favorite locations. Each offered a chance for travelers to share their experience and several had a place for recommendations.
Applications like these can do more than help you relive the past, though. They can be used to prepare for your next trip or discover new places. Using one of the elements of web 2.0, crowdsourcing, travel journals can save you time (and perhaps a hospital visit) by letting their crowd of travelers tell you the best places and tips. All of the applications this week are social applications as well, letting users invite, share, and message fellow travelers within the application.
In the upcoming reviews we’ll be taking a closer look at what the applications offer, but if you would like to get a head start on this type of application, there is the Listio search: travel+share.
