TubeMogul: Distributing Video Easily
This is the fourth review in our series of online video distribution applications. For an introduction to this category, including a rundown of features common to all four applications reviewed this week, please see: Promoting and Distributing Video Content With Web 2.0.
TubeMogul begins with a simple upload process - either upload your video to TubeMogul or use their application to upload it for you to one of over twenty networks. Once that’s done there are options to launch, promote, and track your video(s).
The entire process is about that straightforward - it may sound like it should be complicated, but TubeMogul has laid out their application with ease in mind, putting all the basic functions into three tabs: Dashboard, Marketplace, and Research. The Dashboard has a quick upload tool, a chart that is editable to show what you think is critical (viewership is the default), and your bookmarked producers (videos). Users are able to edit the dashboard to show the elements they like (such as modules for tracking by producer), in the order they like.
Uploading videos is easily done through the Dashboard upload tool, which will guide your video to as many of the 22 video hosting networks as you wish. After the upload, you are prompted to enter your account information for that network, and once launched, the dashboard will show what the status (queued, failed, success) of the upload is.
For promotion TubeMogul offers bookmarking and embedding of videos, in addition to a directory feature that is part of their site. The second tab, Marketplace, is a directory where users can promote themselves, allows online producers to bring in their videos, and lets advertisers to shop for the video that meets their needs. Videos are ranked by views, and can be sorted by category, age group, gender, and searched by name.
Tracking is also possible for any video you may be interested in that is not your own - simply plug the url into the bookmarked producers section and the tracked videos will be available on the dashboard. From the Track Videos link, videos can be tracked by groups that you set up. If you have a number of videos that you have uploaded, you would be able to organize them into batches that helped you keep them straight.
Under the tracking link you can also search by url to monitor any video in the services they have a relation with. Reports can be generated to track videos, along with options to embed the reports, email them, export them (csv), and schedule email reports. Advanced tools, such as comment managers, keyword reports, and partner API keys are available at an extra cost (prices vary).
If there is a downside to TubeMogul it may be in the limited number of networks available to users, though the simplicity of the interface can compensate. To find this application or others like it, there is the Listio search: manage+videos.
