Video Distribution Services: Promoting and Distributing Video Content With Web 2.0
So here’s the setup - you’ve got video that you would like to put online, but you don’t want to just put it into YouTube - you want it all over the web. Maybe you’ve created a promotional video or creative short film. Maybe you’ve found a producer you like and are looking to partner that content with advertising. However you reached this point, you need some help - some web 2.0 help - to promote and distribute video content. This week we take a look at several video distribution services online, sites that allow users to spread their content across tens of video hosting services. In addition to batch uploads (saving a lot of time) they offer the chance for users to promote their videos with tags, descriptions, and in some cases even offer a marketplace to find producers. When thinking of what is important to the distribution of video content there are three areas to keep in mind. The first and most obvious is how far you can distribute - how many networks can the service place your video(s) in? The next criteria would be promotion - there is no shortage of video content in the world - and getting your material to be seen is a valuable addition to the distribution process. The last measure of video distribution is tracking your videos, which can tell you how effective the video is, and whether you are promoting and getting the viewership that you like. All of the applications we will review this week handle distribution, promotion, and tracking in their own way, but no matter how they did, all of them shortcut the process of uploading and promoting video content.
