Writer: Word Processor With No Distraction

Not every user needs a feature-complex application - some just need simple functionality with a couple features. That’s just what Writer offers - basic functionality with as little distraction as possible.

Distraction was a big concern for the developer of Writer - so much so that they include a link to a thesaurus as a way of beating writer’s block. There are no buttons or pulldown menus with Writer, just a black writing space and a few options. Everything has been taken out, including text editing tools, for the sake of focused writing. This is not to say that Writer has no features - they’re just few and linked at the bottom of the screen.

In Writer there is a list of documents that you’ve saved, and whether you’ve made them public or not. Users can see a word count, print, email, download a pdf or txt version of their document, and customize the color of the text they are writing in (when saved the color is black). Files can also be shared (through the Send It link).

The downside to Writer is, of course, the lack of features. Without text editing tools, images, history, spellcheck, attachments, or any of the features we see with most word processing applications, Writer is likely to appeal solely to users that either have a need for a quick text edit, or need a word processor without distractions.

Writer is not for all users, but or users that find themselves distracted by nearly everything, Writer is a pared down blessing, denying users even the chance to get distracted by text formating. To find this or other applications like it there is the Listio search: create+documents.
