Web 2.0 and E-commerce, Creating An Online Store
Just as with any business, there are various levels of online commerce: low sales, moderate sales, and heavy sales. Low sellers - ones that have only an item or two to sell or with small quantities - may want to use one of the online locations like eBay, Etsy, or Craigslist, and heavy sellers need the infrastructure and control to build storefronts on their own websites, but what do sellers with moderate sales do?
For sellers that can not justify the expense of warehouses and the maintenance of a retail site there are web 2.0 e-commerce applications designed to deliver an inexpensive, versatile application that can help sell your products. From these applications we chose Shopify, Shopit, Cartfly, and FlyingCart to review. Each has a specific strength, but all are able to upload your products to list them for sale.
The better of these applications offer controls that you would want in a traditional store: inventory control, order tracking, and product specifications such as assigning a SKU, giving it a brand or department, or creating a custom field to help identify it. They also provide a range of payment options, from PayPal to money orders, so that customers can pay as is most convenient for them.
All stores must be able to promote their goods, and online stores are no different. For this these e-commerce applications give users the chance to list their store with online directories, promote themselves through newsletters, and in some cases export a shopping widget to their website, blog or social network.
As the week goes on we’ll be taking a closer look at these applications, but if you would like to find out more about these applications and applications like them, there is the Listio search: ecommerce+web2.0.
