Comparing Expense Tracking: Nexonia, ExpenseView, Expens’d, and Moneygement
Whether you are looking to manage your expenses as an individual or a business, web 2.0 has something to offer. This week we took a look at applications that help track expenses, with a mind to how easy they were to use, what features they offered, and what kind of user would benefit from them. After the chart we’ll discuss them in greater detail, and if you would like to see more information about the applications Nexonia, ExpenseView, Expens’d, and Moneygement there are full reviews available through the links. To see our introduction to the topic, there is our post: Expense Applications: Managing Finances With Web 2.0.

If ease of use were the only criteria, Expens’d, with its straightforward and basic features would surpass the other applications this week, but that would overlook the fact that Nexonia has more features overall while keeping a simple interface. In fairness none of the applications were confusing - all laid out their features in an intuitive tab layout.
There are a lot of features in Nexonia and Expens’d, though each application has something for different users. Business users, for example, are likely to appreciate Nexonia’s features, since it allows more accountability and approval, but users looking to keep receipts will like the way that Expens’d allows users to attach files. Moneygement and ExpenseView both have widgets for users on the go, and both ExpenseView and Moneygement have a feature for adding income.
For users looking to budget themselves, Moneygement’s at-a-glance spending rate and budget boxes are features that stand out, as does ExpenseView’s budget feature. Moneygement also offers debt tracking, which could be helpful for users tracking petty cash or shared accounts.
A common problem to expense applications is that they do not offer the financial planning tools that would make the application useful for personal users. Users wanting a spending and planning tool are asked to use more than one application, as are users that want to match expenses with financial management.
In the end business users are likely to use Nexonia even if it has a monthly fee; its features and expandability are suited for users that require approvals and accountability. Home users can choose any of the three remaining applications, depending on their needs.
