Expense Applications: Managing Finances With Web 2.0
For businesses and individuals managing expenses is an important part of fiscal health - not only does it help manage the flow of money, but it can tell you what expenses you can expect in the future. To help with this there are a number of web 2.0 applications that are designed to help manage expenses by tracking costs and generating reports.
We’ll be looking more closely at the applications Nexonia, ExpenseView, Expens’d, and Moneygement as the week progresses, but all of the applications have features in common. Each offers a chance for users to enter in their expenses, categorize them, and add notes. They all could generate a report - either in a table layout or a pie chart - that enables users to see the whole of their expenses. All offered a basic search that users could use to find ranges of dates, and some offered searching by categories.
For individuals and users on the go some offered widgets that could be used with the iPhone or with Google, and others provide the ability to track recurring expenses, or debts. Business users can find that some offer a built in approval process, as well as a status field to show which expenses have been paid for. Some give users the chance to match their income with expenses, or attach files.
All but one are free applications, but with the ability to track expenses and get a picture of the bigger financial picture, spending on an expense application could be a value. We’ll begin with our expense application series over the next few days, but if you would like to get a head start or find out more about these applications and applications like them, there is the Listio search: track+expenses.
