Dating and Web 2.0

February 20th, 2009

So Valentines Day came and went and maybe you flew solo or found yourself sharing your candy sweethearts with more than the neighbor. Well, fellow romantics, web 2.0 has a way to find that one special someone.

Listings and simple matching databases have been around for awhile, but the applications we’ll be looking at this week, Psismic, okcupid, and Crazy Blind Date have taken a different approach to social interaction, creating a social network and matching tool that gives prospective daters something to talk about.

Social and at times interactive, these tools allow users to meet friends, activity partners, and of course romantic interest. All are based on pooling a body of potential partners together so that the likelihood of a match is increased, but how they go about this makes them unique. Most offer social tools such as messaging and profiles, and as we’ll see over the next set of reviews, some incorporate instant messaging, posting (like a blog), or immediate results. If you’d like to get a head start on this type of application, there is the Listio search: dating.

Just click on one tag, then as many more as you'd like to narrow your search results. It's easy and ensures you get to the listing you want. Finding web 2.0 was never so easy.
