Indaba: Collaborative Music Application

Indaba is designed with the collaborative musician in mind, not only providing a community for musicians, but an outlet for them to share their wares.
Of the more interesting features of this music network is the ability to collaborate with other artists. Indaba allows users to create a “session,” which lays out what the musician is looking for (including influences, tempo, tone, instruments, and more) and upload a track to get things started. Once the artist has input their information, Indaba will make recommendations of other members that may apply to the users’ project and let them invite other musicians. A new feature will allow users to record (by phone or chat) other session members.
For a collaborative application social tools are a must, and Indaba adds groups and contacts to its application to keep members communicating. In addition there are contests and events - mixers, if you like - to keep members circulating. Profile pages show sessions and participation, as well as a link to users’ websites, and what the member is looking to do (hire, collaborate, jam, and so on). Custom web addresses for members are also possible and licensing can be set to public or set to Creative Commons criteria.
Indaba offers two levels to participate; a free account allows up to 250mb of upload, and unlimited sessions and 10gb of uploads for monthly fee of $10 ($100 annually). If there is a downside to Indaba it is the restriction of sessions in the free account, yet Indaba’s clean design and social tools are likely to overcome users expectations.
