Honorable Mentions: Font Applications

We’ve talked about a few of the font applications that have set themselves apart, yet there are some applications users may also want to see, such as Fontifier, Fawnt, fontcubes, and the entertaining Fontpark 2.0.

There are a lot of fonts out there, but for those users who have something else in mind, there is Fontifier, which allows users to upload their own fonts from a template.

Useful for bringing fonts that have a personal feel to them - such as your own handwriting - Fontifier lets you upload anything, so even images or drawn letters can be formatted into a font file for your computer or graphic program. The downside to Fontifier is that it’s not free - uploads are $9 - but users may like the options that it brings. For example, font files are limited to 26 characters, but Fontifier doesn’t tell you they have to be one letter long, so some users have been using Fontifier to create 26 signatures for any occasion from Happy Birthday to Merry Yuletides.

Other font directories are Fawnt and fontcubes, which show popular fonts, with the number of downloads and popularity.

If you’re tired of looking and want a little play, another interesting font application is Fontpark 2.0, an online game that lets you animate letters to create images and compete for high rankings. Though it starts with Japanese, users can put in their own text in a variety of fonts. There is also a screensaver application available.
