Snapatar lets you update you Twitter profile picture using your webcam. Simply snap a picture, fill out your Twitter details and send the new image to Twitter. You can do this as often as you like. Your creativity is the limit. Of course you can also use Snapatar to create your first avatar image when you first join Twitter. It's probably the easiest way to get rid of that horrible default image.
