Moneygement: Expenses, Debt Tracking, And Reporting

Moneygement LogoThis is the third review in our series of expense applications. For an introduction to this category, including a rundown of features common to all four applications reviewed this week, please see: Expense Applications: Managing Finances With Web 2.0.

Feature-wise moneygement has what expense applications should have: the ability to add in expenses by type and date, enter a description, and see what's been spent by date. What budget-minded users will find most useful are at the left and right of the page, a budget box and a spending rate box (respectively). With the budget box users can see what's been spent in relation to income (input on the transaction page as a category) or budget, and in the spending rate box users can see what their rate of spending is for the month.

Recurring transactions (under the Various tab) allow users to make monthly expenses trackable, and there are debt tracking options. Users that are tracking petty cash accounts may find the last feature particularly useful, since petty cash accounts often loan funds for immediate needs.

Moneygement Recurring

What makes moneygement attractive is how far you can take it; in addition to recurring transactions and integrated debt tracking, moneygement can be used on your mobile for users on the go. Reports can be generated by week, month, or annually, and statistics show spending by categories, month, and year.

Moneygement Categories

The downside to moneygement is that custom reports only generate reports by date range, not by item. If a user wanted to see how much was being spent on transportation by range they would have to assign it a category, then get the monthly statistics by category. Also there is currently no exporting of data - which may leave out serious business users that need greater accountability. That said, moneygement has features that will appeal to a wide variety of users.
